Andrew Jocuns, Ph.D.

Biography

Andrew Jocuns is an Assistant Professor in the MA TESOL program in the College of Education at Wenzhou-Kean University. His research interests are rooted in qualitative approaches to sociolinguistics and linguistic anthropology. He has conducted research in the USA on STEM education, linguistic anthropology in Indonesia and has conducted and published research on a broad range of topics including: linguistic landscape, geosemiotics, multimodal discourse analysis, digital discourse analysis, Thai English, elective bilingualism, and multilingualism. In January 2023 Dr. Jocuns was awarded the status of Fellow (FHEA) by the Higher Education Association, UK after review against the UK Standards Framework for teaching and learning support in higher education. Before joining Wenzhou-Kean University Andrew held teaching positions in Thailand at Thammasat and Assumption universities, and in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq at the University of Kurdistan Hewlêr, and research positions for the U.S. federal government. Andrew is also a reviewer for several journals, Multimodal Communication, Applied Linguistics, Manusya Journal of Humanities, Advances in Southeast Asian Studies and is also a reviewer for the sociolinguistics strand for the American Association of Applied Linguistics annual conference. Presently he is conducting research on Multilingualism and Identity and Global Citizenship in relation to English in a variety of contexts.
